Testing and Assessment FAQs
If there are grades, how will they be determined?
The Oregon Virtual Academy is a mastery-based program, which means students master concepts and lessons before moving on to the next lesson. Students will be required to submit assignments to their teachers for evaluation and feedback. Teachers will assess mastery and provide quantitative feedback in the secondary grades.
What tests are required as part of the program?
In addition to K12 lesson, unit, and semester assessments, ORVA students in grades 3–8 and grade 11 will take the Oregon Smarter Balance (SBAC).
Do I have to participate in state testing?
All students are required to participate in state testing for Science. Students are requested to state test in English Language Arts and Math. However, a student may opt-out as long as the required state documentation has been received by the school on or before the due date of testing.
